FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here you'll find answers to the most common questions we get asked.

What is Re-enacting and Living History?

Re-enacting is the name given to the activity of 'acting' out historic events, this is mostly based around certain events that happened such as the battles that took place, it often evolves around military figures and those who fought and those who supported the fighters.

Living History is based around the day-to-day activities of any given period, such as crafting, cooking, and other activities that people did in their everyday lives and aims to give those who visit the displays and encampments a more immersive experience of the period in time.

Why do people get into Re-enacting and Living History.

The reasons for getting into re-enactment are many, a lot of people like to experience what it would be like to live in the late medieval period, it also gives people the chance to learn more about how our ancestors and the people who came before us lived and acted. Many of our members have joined to learn new skills or just have a general interest in the time. Whatever the reason for joining in, certain things can be guaranteed and that is that, you will always make new friends and meet like minded people. Plus, there's always usually someone willing to share a drink around the campfire. Re-enacting can be as relaxed or as energetic as you want.

Where does all the kit and equipment come from?

A lot of the equipment that we use can be bought from various craftspeople, and there are large re-enactment and living history markets that take place at points through out the year that can offer you the best places to either buy kit, commission it or buy the materials to make it. We have a very skilled group of members that have made a lot of there own equipment to high level of authenticity and are more than willing to help new members learn the skills necessary to produce their own.

What does Knights In Battle do?

Knight in Battle re-enacts, the mid, to late 15th Century. We represent members of Sir John Howards household, and all aspects of that. From fighting to cooking and everything in between. Take a look at our about page for a small section of roles our members participate in.

Do I have to get involved in combat

At the time, it was expected that the men of the household who were able to fight, were expected to if called upon by their lord. However, we're 21st Century people 'acting' out the part of those living in the 15th Century and it is entirely up to you what you'd like to do. No one will expect you to enter combat and if you would like to, we accept all genders entering into combat as long as you meet the safety and kit requirements. Basic combat kit requirements are: Helmet and Gauntlets and even though not part of the basic requirements padding is recommended.
